Summer Events

life size sculpture of Spirit of the Valley by Terry Henrie

June 2011

We are celebrating the beginning of our second decade in Blanca and we'll have a summer full of happy events. This is actually year thirteen in the San Luis Valley. We fondly recall the first years in Fort Garland at our little Willow in the Valley shop. The huge wreath on our west wall once hung there and we just had to bring it with us. My fiesty Mamasita sits in our garden. We pay tribute to her this summer.

Please join us June 17 for a day of art and activiites. Our guests will enjoy music by Palmas in the evening and dancing by Ila with a dancing partner, Manuel Montaño, during the afternoon. Check back here for times. The rest of the day will be filled with workshops and demonstrations. A booth will be on hand for some fun photos.

July

The garden will be filled with flowers for our first ever Folk Art Weekend July 23. Artists and artisans are invited to set up their easels and workbenches. All art will be prejudged. Stop in for details.

August

Joyce always celebrates her birthday month by giving away a work of art, surprising customers with a special sale and just having fun. This August she invites other August birthday artists to join her in painting a mural to be donated to a San Luis Valley business chosen by vote. Mural panel will be unveiled at a reception at the end of August.

Forest Tango will also be open late on Thursday evenings during August for end of season gatherings of whatever strikes the fancy of the many artists who wind up their summer with wine, song and poetry.

PALMAS

MUSIC IN THE SPIRIT OF FLAMENCO

Palmas is the spirited guitar duo of Scott and Karla Stockley. Drawing on varied backgrounds in guitar the two mix soulful Latin melodies and rhythms, traditional flamenco, and Karla's soaring vocals to create a balance of music both instrumental and vocal. Occasional influences of rock and blues add to the mix. Karla Pabinquit-Stockley's playing reflects both her formal training and her original songwriting talents, while Scott learned to play guitar for his cat between fishing trips over the last 25 years. Currently playing as a guitar duo, Palmas has performed many shows throughout the valley area with full percussion behind them. Thus begins a new phase in the evolution of Palmas. Come share the feeling with us at our next show.
